The Boy in Striped Pajamas

By John Boyne

Pages: 218

This fiction book is a sad story about the Holocaust.  The book focuses on only one family’s life during this time period. There is a boy named Bruno who has to move and he is mad. “Why?” Bruno would always think. His dad was a Nazi; Bruno’s family lived right next to a concentration camp with people in striped pajamas. He made a friend with one of the men in the pajamas. His name was Shmuel. Bruno really didn’t understand what the holocaust was about, so one day he went under the fence.  He put on striped pajamas and tried to help Shmuel find his dad. They both ended up dying (maybe from the gas chamber the book doesn’t say). If you are a sensitive person, there are only a few parts that are sad.

Rotten Romans

By Terry Deary

Pages: 136

This hilarious but horrible book is about the Romans. Romans would cut a person’s head off and nail it to their own house wall because they thought the head had magical powers. Also, if kids were lazy in school then they would get beaten. Clearly, these Romans were surely rotten.

The Magician’s Nephew

By C.S. Lewis

Pages 202

This magical fiction book is about a girl named Polly and a boy named Digory. They go to different worlds such as Charn, Wood between the Worlds and Narnia. Charn is an old gray and dead world. In this world, Digory rings a bell and awakes an evil witch named Jadis.  Digory and Polly try to sneak back to London without the witch, but she quickly grabs Digory’s ear. Jadis enters London and starts hitting policemen with a lamppost. Thankfully, Digory saves the day and grabs on to Jadis’s heel.  He thought only he and Polly would go back to The Wood between the Worlds but instead Polly, Digory, Jadis, Strawberry, Uncle Andrew, and Cabby went. They accidently went to a beautiful place called Narnia instead of Charn. Aslan, the creator of Narnia, finds out that Digory was the one responsible for taking Jadis there. Digory had to do right by going to a garden far away and bring an apple back.  Will Digory do it??? Read the book for yourself to find out.

The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven

By Kevin & Alex Malarkey

Pages 224 (haven’t finish this awesome book yet)

The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven: A Remarkable Account of Miracles, Angels, and Life beyond This WorldThis sad but powerful nonfiction Christian book is about a young boy named Alex who was in a bad car crash and went into a coma. When he was in the coma, Alex was actually in heaven.  In every chapter Alex describes what heaven is like, stated that he couldn’t see God’s face but he was talking to him.  Also, the story tells about what his parents were going through while Alex was in the coma.  This book describes heaven, angels, the devil, and the voice of God.  So far, I have enjoyed reading this book.

Gorgeous Georgians

By Terry Deary

Page: 140

This book is a super funny book that tells about the Georgians in the 1700s. For example, the book shows how ladies put on their makeup every day and also tells who wore false eyebrows, which were made from mouse skin.  The most horrible part of all is what the Georgians did with squashed fish eyes.  Read It at your own risk.

                                                          Pages: 128

This hilarious book is about the Greeks. This book doesn’t just tell you the history it tells you history with the nasty bits left in. Groovy Greeks tells you facts you have never known, maybe your teachers don’t even know!  For an example did you know that its bad luck to help someone unload? Terry Deary (the author) made this book more interesting by putting pictures or comics. At the end of this book there is a test. Clearly, this book is interesting.

Horseradish: Bitter Truths You Can’t Avoid
Product Details
By Lemony Snicket     pages: 168

Do you want a book about alarming but inescapable truths?  Horseradish is

the book to read.  Other books have fantasy or fiction about a person, but this book has

true facts.  The book starts off by telling a story and at the end of the story it said that

“you can’t avoid the bitter truths.”  A bitter truth is a harsh fact.  An example of a bitter

truth from the book is, “Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.” The next

thirteen chapters are bitter truths about home, school, work, entertainment and more.  If you

like to read about truths that can’t be avoided, Horseradish is the book for you.
