What My Mother Doesn’t Know
By: Sonya Sones
Pages: 259
Lexile 900-999

Before I tell you about this book, all I want to say is that I loved this book!  It took me about a day to read but not because it was easy.  It was because I wanted to read it and was addicted to the book. Just a heads up that it has teenage romance***

This is a poem story instead of a regular book. The book is a girl named Sophie’s diary of her days. She is a fifteen-year old who has many crushes in different parts of the book. She describes friendships, boyfriends, family, high school, high school dances, and some tough decisions. This book never gets boring; it is interesting, the more you read it the more unexpected roads the book turns. A must read book.

Painting of Maria Frederike van Reede-Athlone at Seven

Maria Frederike van Reede-Athlone at Seven

Detail: Maria (the girl)

Maria is a very pale and lovely looking girl. Her head must hurt from staying in that same position until the painter finished painting her. I wonder why she is looking to her left (my right) is she looking at something? Also she is holding a black puppy that looks like it is going to squirm out of her hands. The dog must have been the first thing the painter painted because it would want to run and play instead of sit and stay. Maria is wearing very fancy clothes, the main colors are white, black,  and blue. What do you see?

As A Room 14er...

This year as as a room 14er I learned a lot of new ways of doing things.  For example, I learned active learning, how to make things fun and interesting, and much more. In room 14 we do all these cool things that other 6th grade classes don't do.  Other examples are blogs, we BYOD, we make eduacational videos, and we do just plain wierd things (that I love doing). One my of favorite things is just having a class conversation about something.  I wish I could stay in Ms. Ullner's class forever! She is so nice, interesting, unique, and understanding. I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!! I must go get a tissue before I cry my eyeballs out, so farewell.

Among the Hidden

By: Margaret Peterson Haddix

Page: 160

This fantastic book is about a place where families are only allowed to have two children. If the population police catch a family with a third child, that child will be killed. There is a boy named Luke who is the third child and the family attempts to hide him. He could go outside, but he has to hide from cars passing by. Once a housing development replaced the woods, Luke had to hide in his house and couldn’t go outside anymore. The new community of people in Luke’s neighborhood was barons (very rich people). One day Luke was looking out of the vent (no one could see him) in the attic (his room) and saw a person pass the window who he believed was a third child. Luke finds even more evidence that this is a third child as days go by. Finally, Luke has the courage to run out side and go in the third child’s home; they could keep themselves from being lonely all day. In the house, Luke finds out the third child is a girl named Jen.  Jen is a brave, smart, and sassy child who Luke always hangs out with.  One day, Jen gets too brave and starts a rally in the city to stop third children and she dies trying. Luke did not know this until he accidently met Jen’s dad in Jen’s house.
